IBM z10 Upgrade

In today’s dynamic IT environment, Northwest Regional Data center believes we must remain flexible to meet our customers’ needs. It is particularly true in our Mainframe service as we need to carefully plan our capacity to remain cost advantageous. Our prior IBM z9 Mainframe had lost the ability to increase or decrease capacity due it its age. An IBM z10 allows for greater flexibility for changes going forward. As a result, On May 27, 2010, the Policy Board approved our proposal to purchase an IBM 2098-Q03 z10 mainframe processor. The z10 was installed on July 17, 2010 starting just after midnight. By 6:30AM Sunday (0630), all work and testing were completed and customer jobs were running on the new z10-Q03.
